How to become a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.



How to become a member: -
  • Register as a student with the Institute

  • Pass The Professional Qualifying Exams (PQE’s)
It formally comprises 7 exams,(4 exams from Group One and remaining from Group two and three) which you can do over 5 years (although many complete in a much shorter time). Embarking on the PQE’s will mean that you need to sit a minimum of 2 exams in the first year including Shipping Business and Excluding Introduction to Shipping.Many other degrees and qualifications may make you eligible for exemptions such as a Master Mariner will get excemption in at least 3 papers.

Once PQE's have been completed, you will be eligible to apply for Membership with the Institute.

Introduction to Shipping
Legal Principles in Shipping Business
Economics of Sea Transport and International Trade
Shipping Business (must be taken in the first year)

Group Two:

Dry Cargo Chartering
Ship Operations and Management
Ship Sale and Purchase
Tanker Chartering
Liner Trades
Port Agency
Logistics and Multi-Modal Transport
Port and Terminal Management
Offshore support Group

Group Three:
Shipping Law
Marine Insurance
Shipping Finance
